WHAT CAN WORDS DO?

July 8, 2016

It's impossible to ignore the chasm that the United States, indeed, the world is tumbling into.

Karen Finley wrote a very articulate message on Facebook today.  Many others express anger and sadness regarding the killings of two black men by over zealous cops and then, the horror of a sniper attack by at least one black shooter, Micah Johnson,  killing eight police officers at a rally in Texas.

I wrote this to piggy back on Karen's statement:

"Karen Finley is a celebrated American Artist. This current situation with gun violence must be brought to light even more. Our railing on Facebook, preaching mostly to the 'choir' certainly may stir the pot, but if our leaders: local, regional and national, don't step up and host gatherings to declare NO MORE! and then start weeding out the angry cops and disgruntled military personnel and the private citizens who think they have 'constitutional rights' to create private armories .. the trend of shooting deaths will certainly escalate. Some police departments exacerbate matters by amassing military arsenals. Some react with emotional knee jerks. Finding a way to Reason and to turn this tide falls not to "Them." It falls to me. Be peace. Teach Peace. Gather in Peace."

And now, it falls to me to ask the few folks who read this journal of mine to do something.  I must do something, too.  Tomorrow, Saturday, July 9th, 2016, there will be a gathering at the Service Station in Adams Square Mini-Park: 1020 East Palmer Avenue, Glendale CA 91205. http://www.glendaleca.gov/Home/Components/News/News/2907/16?backlist=%2F

From 5:30 until 8PM I will be sitting quietly on a bench adjacent to the Service Station.  There may be a sign: "Peace."  Please join me with the intention to simply "be" Peace.
