TV news reports an attempted kidnapping in my neighborhood! Then, a similar incident occurred half a mile away. What is a mystery to me is that with the current tech skills that are in everyone's phones, the surveillance video that becomes available is still hardly helpful with out of focus images. The first incident was caught on video, but it's so blurry, it's hardly helpful.
What bothers me most is that with this incident, the TV news will interview parents and even little kids, which puts us all on notice!! But, like a pebble in a pond, the emanating rings make so many people feel threatened and the paranoia, which should be simply the message to be awake.. expands to a virtual lock down for miles.
The old 'If it bleeds, it leads' mentality will always be a part of journalism. It sells. Finding a middle ground to be cautious and vigilant instead of finding a kidnapper in every dark corner, it seems to me, is a good idea. We must not let fear rule our lives.
