Dear Abe! 207 and counting

February 12, 2016

Abraham Lincoln was born on this date in 1809, 207 years ago..  Log Cabin.. and all that. With all the conveniences that we have today, it's hard to imagine how those folks got along at all.   This new bullet train idea now burgeoning (that makes no sense to me) to take us from LA to SF in an hour or whatever is just silly. Just imagine doing your homework on the back of a shovel by the light of a fireplace. That helped to make a hero!  It's a wonky analogy, but you get it.

Why we are racing headlong into an instant future seems to knock out the dictum to stop and smell the roses?  No Andersen's Pea Soup?  Of course, the Golden State Freeway by passes the 101 and whips us at 80 (in the slow lane) from LA to SF in about five hours. In my bus, it's about eight hours on the 101 and I made that trip many times.

Soon we'll just beam up and down from one place to another, eliminating the need for TSA and airlines and cars and buses and bikes and skates and scooters and everything but Shank's Mare.
