I cannot dwell on the horrific news from Orlando, nor the death count. Others will do that for many days to come.
What
I can comment on is that it seems to me that the proliferation of
extremist incidents will continue to terrorize the world until we reach
an understanding that will probably have the US Government and the world
actually negotiating with one another. This, of course, may be
silly, because the goal of terror is to wreak chaos and mayhem: to
conquer by terror and fear. How many actual terrorists there may be in
the world is unknown .. at least to me. Winnowing out the extreme
religious beliefs and mental health issues that allow for anyone to do
what's been done, from Oklahoma City to Columbine to the Twin Towers to
Sandy Hook / Newtown to Aurora, Colorado to San Bernardino to Orlando
and the many incidents in between and yet to come is an impossible task
unless we begin to find ways to actually communicate with one another.
The
current Presidential bruhaha that will probably only escalate as the
Orange Man and The Lady take center stage is part and parcel of our
inability to make real efforts to understand each other. It's a sad
fact that fully half of the voting population of the United States may
truly think that anger and vitriol: acting out! are the only way to get
their way. This is a mirror image of what fundamentalist religions and
other sects seem to have going on. The real shame is that civil
communication is practically impossible now. Of course, the only way to
'fix' it is to somehow find a way to harmony... or at least to some
mutual understanding not only in the United States, but in the whole
world.
It's time for us to literally literally "Be" Peace as best we can. Peace and love must be the answer. Let it begin with me.
