MAX AND DICK AND SALLY AND THE SAN ANDREAS

CINCO DE MAYO!  2016

Decades TV..  1971!  Maximillian Schell, Sally Field and Dick Cavett
Dick Cavett and Max Schell 1971
in discussion that is in depth and warm and shows why Sally Field is the wonderful actress that she is today.  Fortyfive years ago!  She is still The Flying Nun. Fresh faced and present and available.  She is 25 and talks candidly about herself and her not wanting to be 'famous.'  Schell is charming and traded seats with Cavett to ask Cavett questions.  Schell was 41.  I paid attention to this program because my friend, Christina Linhardt, was close to him, thus making my connection one degree of separation?  Connections...  I once saw Cavett doing his 'run' around NBC studios a long time ago and admired Sally when I saw her in an antique shop in the Valley.  So.. are those connections 'no degrees of separation?'   The charming thing about Sally's chat on this show is that she has no idea that she'll be standing on the stage w/ her Oscar for Norma Rae only thirteen years later saying the line that will stay with her forever.  How could we not "like" her!   This Cavett Show was taped on the day of the '71 Sylmar Quake!
That Quake woke me up in Long Beach and then I went back to sleep.

This morning, I was ready to be upset about how the media keeps us in fear, but was warmly distracted by Max and Dick and Sally.   The issue of fear to control people is going to ramp up in the next six months.  That thought in itself is troubling because even as I see it for what it is: pure manipulation.. I can still feel what some folks might consider very real.  We live in California. The San Andreas Fault will be the culprit, of course.  We've had BIG ONEs in the past and certainly little quakes are happening daily.  What upsets me is that with super graphics that are now available, television reports show swaths of blooming red peaks to represent the coming disaster.  There's talk of pre-quake warnings, as though a few seconds might make a difference. It's all about fear and exacerbating things by amping up the preparedness factor and showing past images of collapsed freeways and buildings.

This is not to say that having an emergency pack available is not a a good idea. Of course, it is. It's just the burgeoning fears that create an atmosphere of End Times or such and do a number on our delicate psyches!   It's good to be cautious, but to live in fear is to live in fear is to live in fear...
and that's no way ... to me.. to live.
