CONFOUNDING AND ASTOUNDING

December 11, 2016
I am whammified from two different times in my life today.  One memory concerns a gorgeous woman who was, as a kid, the most beautiful girl I had ever seen.  She was bright beyond bright, sarcastic and funny and beautiful.  Now, as a grandmother, I am sure that much of that 'stuff' that made her so special as a teenager is still bubbling in there somewhere.  I've encouraged her to write, but I don't think she does.  She's with her high school sweetheart and I know he is grateful for her company.  Good on them!

The other thing..  It's about how other folks see things that I may be incapable of seeing.  I've made the analogy to the business of mining the Moon for green cheese.  If you are convinced by your own evidence that the Moon is actually made of green cheese, then, the idea to fly there and corner the green cheese market is not out of the question.  In this same way, some folks are convinced that there is a Heaven by their own evidence and that there is only one way to get there.  My recent read of Dr. Eben Alexander's book, Proof of Heaven, has only one problem.  It's all based on our time lined relative existence..  At least the Lutherans have a little bit of a handle on that by declaring in the end of each service,
'... may the Peace that passes all understanding be with you all.'

That's the key for me.  'beyond all understanding..'  Imagine that!  There's a line from a wonderful play called The Hasish Club that The Company Theatre did a long time ago where old pals who rambled together as kids come back in their thirties for one last exploration of the old days.  They consume a psychedelic and then each of their stories unfolds.  At the end of the first act, one of the guys opens the huge door on the side of the stage and the night sky peeks in.

"What's it like out there?" someone asks.

"It's the same as it always was, but... MORE SO."  The Peace that passes all understanding?  Heaven?

As the world turns on its ear, we can only live this life and play the cards we've been dealt. Remove the "L" and add an "H" and that's where we all wind up, win, lose or draw.
